An important point is, I find, to highlight our affinity to the historical Bauhaus movement. Bauhaus as the home of classical modernism amalgamates architecture, crafts and art in what many consider to be an ideal manner. Although Bauhaus really only existed from 1919 to 1933, its influence has endured to the present day. Of course, there are plenty of other movements that have played an important role in the world of design and craftsmanship, such as functionalism, Art Deco and Ettore Sottsass’ Memphis Group, to name just a few. This diversity is also reflected in the color and shape of the respective luminaires. What may be color atrocities and ornamental crimes for one beholder are beautiful and provide peace of mind for another. Although we do not have sovereignty of interpretation about what “good design” is, we have found our own style.
Our mission
The environment in which we operate is characterized by great dynamism: the variety of forms of the luminaires offered by the competition is almost immeasurable, while the technical parameters for LEDs change every six to eight months. The only option that remains is to exercise great flexibility and openness. When architectural offices, shipyards and project developers, as our most important customers, introduce their own lighting ideas within the scope of projects, then we implement these concepts both technically and artistically. That is our business. In this sense, we are free spirits – steeped in tradition yet constantly embracing innovation.
Cordially,
Christian Schmidt
